he's mike roth, professor at the university of maryland. he joins us now. >> george, it's the year of the ant. they're crazy out there. we have had luxurious ant growth. they're about carbohydrate sweet stuff. normally, they're up in the trees. after that, they may have honey or a spill, the ants are coming in, once they find it, they say, hey, guess what? dinner at george's place. >> we dropped a popsicle outside and it was an army. these are the ones, sam was saying, when you crush them they really smell? >> that's how you can tell the difference between this and, let's say, pavement ants. you can crush them. don't crush too many of them, mother nature will get a little annoyed but they smell like coke know nut. it's a defensive mechanism to ward off predators. that's how i tell them apart. >> what do do you about it? >> follow that trail, find out where the sweet stuff is. get in there, clean the cupboards very well. if you have a cat dish or dog food dish put that away. i use ant bait. put some of this bait on a card. i put one of them
